The NH Avalanche is happy to announce their second NCAA college commitment of the 2018-19 season.  First year forward Jake Adkins has chosen UMass Boston to continue his academic and athletic career.  Umass Boston is currently ranked 14th in the Nation at the Div III college hockey level and are in the NEHC hockey conference. Beacons play their home games at their on campus facility The Clark Athletic Center and their Head Coach is Peter Belisle who is in his 13th season behind the bench.

Adkins split time last season with Fairbanks in the NA and the Colorado Thunderbirds 18U.  This season the Centennial, CO native decided to head to the East Coast for more College Exposure and it has paid of for the rugged winger.  In 16gp for the Avalanche Adkins has 14g and 9 assists and currently is third in the EHL in goals scored.  The 6'3 200lbs winger was also part of the EHL All Star game where he played against Umass Boston in a pre-season match up and caught the eye of the Umass Boston coaching staff.  "Jake has done a great job so far this season and has for sure earned a commitment to a very good Div III college hockey program.  He is a big, rugged winger that plays the game hard and is tough to play against.  He really enjoyed his visit with the coaching staff at Umass Boston and is excited about what the future holds for him on the ice and in the class room.  Jake believed in the process. He came from Colorado to the east coast which is not a usual path for mid-west or west-coast kids.  They do not realize how lucky the players are on the East Coast who get to play in front of college hockey scouts at almost every single game.  Jake didn't worry about a league label, he only worried about going to a place where he could be successful and get college hockey exposure.  He got exactly what he was looking for and I am very happy for him and his family, he deserves everything he has earned.  More players from the mid-west and west coast should follow in his foot steps and go where most of college hockey is located, on the east coast," said Chris Cerrella

Now that he has decided on where he is going to attend college next season Adkins can concentrate on his play and helping the Avalanche defend their EHL title.  Adkins is very excited about the remainder of his season but is even more excited about his future at Umass Boston.  "Umass Boston is a place that made me feel really at home on my visit.  I am blessed to be able to get the best of both worlds when it comes to education and to represent one of the top Div III programs in the country.  I want to thank Coach Cerrella and the entire NH Avalanche organization for believing in me.  I want to thank all my excellent mentors including all my coaches and especially my parents.  I want to thank my team mates who have always been there for me on my journey.  Without them to inspire me I wouldn't be where I am today and I am forever grateful," said Adkins.

With 12 games left before Santa Claus comes to town Jake Adkins and the NH Avalanche look to continue to climb the top of the EHL.  Stay tuned to www.nhavalanche.com as there will be more college commitment announcements coming soon.
