EHL Forward Set to Join Leopards this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- The New Hampshire Avalanche are pleased to announce that Gary Claps has committed to the Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) for the fall of 2023. The '02 native of Norwalk, CT chose the Avalanche for his final season of junior hockey, and over the course of 42 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games this past year, Claps tallied 22 points to his credit on six goals and 16 assists.

"It was an absolute pleasure coaching Gary this past season," said EHL head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "Gary came to us looking for a better opportunity, and that's exactly what we provided, resulting in this commitment to Wentworth. I have no doubt that Gary will become a integral part of both the Wentworth hockey team as well as the school community."

Claps is one of two EHL players set to join WIT this fall, as he will team up with Ethan Lim from the Connecticut Chiefs when he arrives on campus. Overall, Claps is the 29th player in league history to choose WIT, a program that has taken at least one player from the EHL in all 10 seasons since the league was formed back in 2013.

"I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to further both my academic and athletic careers at the Wentworth Institute of Technology this fall," said Claps. "I’d like to thank my family and friends for always supporting me. I’d also like to thank Coach Cerrella and all my other coaches who have helped me along the way, as well as Coach [Jay] Pecora and Coach [Jake] Hallisey for giving me this opportunity. I’m excited to get started."
