EHL Defenseman Set to Join Cardinals this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- The New Hampshire Avalanche are pleased to announce that Mike Fritz has committed to Wesleyan University for the fall of 2023. The '02 native of Gibsonia, PA recently finished his second and final season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and the defensive defenseman tallied eight total points over the course of 52 career games.

"Fritz battled injuries over the past two seasons," said EHL head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He has really thrived and come out on top with his commitment to Wesleyan. It just proves to these young men out there to keep working towards your goals and earn it every day. We have four alum attending Wesleyan right now and doing a great job on the ice and in the class room, and Mike will be no different.  Wesleyan is getting another good player and good young man from us and we are proud of Fritzy. We wish him and his family nothing but the best of the luck in the future."

As Cerrella mentioned, Fritz joins a group of Avalanche alumni at Wesleyan that includes Parker Sondag, Henry Carlson, Kyle Anderson and Wiggle Kerbrat. With the decision that Fritz made, New Hampshire has now advanced a single player to Wesleyan in each of the past five seasons, dating back to the 2018-19 campaign.

“I’m really looking forward to the next four years, I want to thank my parents and family for the support through my life to continue working hard and focusing on playing at the next level," said Fritz. "Their belief in me and shared passion helped me through injuries and adversity. Along with my family I want to thank both Coach Cerrella with the Avs, and Coach [Bob] Ferraris at Trinity Pawling for pushing me and helping me reach my goals even after COVID tried to stand in the way of that. With all that being said I can’t wait for next year."

Fritz and the Avalanche put together a tremendous 2022-23 season that took them all the way to the EHL Championship Game. Despite falling short in that game, Fritz and his teammates in New Hampshire still have plenty to be proud of with everything they accomplished this season.
