EHL Forward Set to Join Colonels in the Fall of 2022

HOOKSETT, NH -- The New Hampshire Avalanche are pleased to announce that Matt Carlson has committed to Wilkes University for the fall of 2022. The '01 native of Delmar, NY came to the Avalanche following three seasons of prep hockey at Albany Academy. Now, with this commitment, Carlson has a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders for the remainder of this season (2020-21), and all of next season (2021-22).

"I believe Matt is one of the best 200-foot players in the EHL," said EHL head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He has a high compete level and high IQ, and he is only going to get better. He loved his visits to Wilkes and enjoyed his process with Coach Hynes. He will be back with us and in the EHL next season to develop and mature his game before heading to Wilkes in 2022. I am very excited for Matt and his family. Wilkes has added a great student-athlete to their locker room and class room."

While the commitment is a big relief for Carlson, Cerrella also loves the fact that he already knows one of his current forwards will be returning next season. To date this year, Carlson has tallied an even 10 goals and 10 assists in 25 total games to date. The young playmaker has also been playing well as of late, with seven points over his last seven games.

"I am extremely excited to commit to Wilkes," said Carlson. "All the hard work is worth it in the end and I can’t thank the Avs, my teammates, and Coach Cerrella and the coaching staff enough on this year so far. I am excited for what’s to come down the road!"

Coming up this week, Carlson and the Avs have a pair of road games on tap, as they travel to take on the Seacoast Spartans on Thursday, and follow that game up with a matchup against the Lumberjacks Hockey Club on Saturday.
