EHL Team Begins Title Defense with 3 Straight Victories

HOOKSETT, NH -- Every team for the New Hampshire Avalanche has now officially hit the ice for at least their first game of the season. This past week featured six games for the junior teams, and a perfect 6-0-0 record.

Junior Teams

The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) team got to work this past week, as they began the defense of their back-to-back league championships. in three games against New England Conference rivals, the Avalanche were able to come out on top by scores of 6-4 (Wolves), 3-2 (Rangers), and 5-3 (Seahawks). So far, the key catalysts on offense have been returning forward Victor Nikiforov (3 goals - 4 assists), and 2nd year defenseman Jake Mendeszoon (1 goal - 6 assists).

In total, 16 players have tallied at least a point, while Andrew Lorusso, Matt Lane, and George McMichael have all picked up a victory between the pipes.

As for the brand new team in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), the Avalanche have looked excellent in wins over the Wolves, Rangers, and Lumberjacks. It's worth noting that the Wolves won last year's EHLP Championship, the Rangers have won two of the first four titles, and the Lumberjacks won a Regular Season crown back in the 2016-17 season. It's safe to say that the Avalanche will fit in just fine in the EHLP.

Just like the EHL team, there have been 16 players that have tallied at least a point so far this year. As for the netminders, Nathan Burlew earned Goalie of the Week honors after going 2-0-0 last weekend, with a 1.50 GAA and a .940 save percentage.

U18 Full Season

The U18 Full Season team traveled down to Salem, NH to play against the New England Fall Prep team. The team battled hard and finished with a 2-2 tie, led by 2 goals from forward Nick Douidi, and a strong performance in net from Jordan Richard.

U16 Gold

The U16 Gold team traveled to Raynham, MA on Saturday to take on the New England Knights in a BHL contest. The Avs overcame a penalty-filled 2nd period, killing off three separate 5 on 3 man advantages for the Knights, and powering through for a 4-1 win. Brett Niland scored two goals and Patrick Poirier had an outstanding game on defense. Colby Boyce locked the door in the 3rd period with some timely saves to preserve the victory.

The road trip continued on Sunday as the U16 Gold team traveled to Dover, NH for their first GSL matchup of the season with the Granite State Wild. Grady Chretien paced the offense with four goals and Michael Durkin was a force on defense. Ethan Swanson earned the shutout in net as the team dominated all three zones in an 8-0 win.

2007 Select

The 2007 Select team got off to a great start with a 7-3 victory in their first game of the season against the New Hampshire Jr, Monarchs. In total, 8 of 11 skaters were involved in the 7 goals, and Ethan Robinson was rock solid in goal.
