The NH Avalanche of the EHL is proud to announce that veteran forward Leo Avakovs has decided to continue his academic and athletic career at Albertus Magnus College.  The Falcons will begin their first season in Div III college hockey in 2019 and will be coached by Div I veteran Kyle Wallack.  Albertus Magnus is located in New Haven, CT and will play there home games at the newly renovated Ralph Walker Skating Rink just a few miles from campus.  Avakovs came to the NH Avalanche after playing most of the season in the NCDC and began gaining college attention right away in the EHL.  Playing in 11 games with the Avalanche the Latvian native scored 5 pts to finish the regular season and contributed 4 pts in 6 playoff games including the game winner in the EHL Finals.  "Leo is very gifted offensively and should translate to college hockey as long as he continues to work on playing away from the puck.  We brought him in late in the year as we knew he would be a good addition to our offense and he scored some really big goals for us in the playoffs.   I wish him and his family nothing but the best and I am glad to see Leo going off to play college hockey next season," said Chris Cerrella.  The skilled winger is very excited about the opportunity he earned playing in the EHL and for the Avs and is looking forward to attending Albertus next season and being part of the Falcon family.  "I am excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Albertus Magnus College.  It is a great fit for me both on the ice and off the ice.  I want to thank Coach Wallack for giving me the opportunity to earn my college degree and play for Albertus Magnus.  I am honored and excited to be part of building this new program.  I want to thank Coach Cerrella and the entire Avalanche staff for their enthusiastic and tireless support.  They were able to help me achieve my goal of playing college  hockey even though I joined the team late in the season.  I especially want to thank my mom and dad for always supporting me through my hockey journey.  I also want to thank my billets the Saucier family for letting me be a part of their family and for their support throughout the past three years," said Avakovs.  This is the NH Avs 15th NCAA college commitment of the season and there is more to be announced coming soon.
